While we offer a content writing service here at Bluecoo, lots of our clients choose to provide their own content for their websites. Here is our top tips on how to write effective content for your website:
Less is More
You may be able to write a short novel on your business and how great it is, but the reality is that people simply don’t take in information in the same way these days. The chances of the average visitor reading long paragraphs of text are very slim, so our advice for written content is always “less is more”.
Use the space you have online to summarise the key points about your business and services and then let your potential customers find out more when they contact you.

Put Yourself in Your Customers Shoes
The best way to write website content is to put yourself in the shoes of your customers/clients and think about what they need to know. A great way to do this is to think of questions they may have, and use the website content to answer those questions.
Let’s say you are a dentist for example: new patients thinking about joining the practice are going to want to know certain things: who will be treating me? Is there parking? How much do treatments cost? Do they do NHS? Do they treat children?
Answering all these questions quickly and succinctly on your website, removes any hesitation that a potential customer or client might have to get in touch.
Think about what makes you different
With so much competing business out there, you need to give your customers a reason to choose you over anyone else. Your website is not just an information platform, it’s a window into your business – how you run it and what makes you completely unique. Think of your company ethos and what really makes you stand out, then be sure to reference that consistently in the website content.
Copywriting can be a daunting task, but you need to remember that no one knows your business better than you. Of course, we will always be on hand to help and advise and if you really are struggling, we can even write it for you.
